Contextual advertising is a method of advertisement which appears in web sites or other content based pages. The contextual advertisement is served dynamically by automated or semi-automated systems. Contextual advertising can be targeted to the specific individual visiting web site page. Contextual advertising will be displayed within that page or pop-up ads or pop-under ads.
Contextual advertising have some different types of advertising category. Some popular contextual advertising category has been given in below.
1) Content Target Contextual advertising
This contextual advertising system scans the entire content or text of the web page and shows the ads which ads keyword would be match or targeted with that content. For example: - If the web page content is related with web design, the advertisement for web design companies will be displayed.
2) Site Target Contextual Advertising
This contextual advertising system displays the ads on pre-assigned or already allotted web sites and or its particular page. The advertiser has to choose their own choice of target site. For Example: - If an advertiser willing to put their advertisement on http://sample.com, he can choose that site from the list of network sites given by contextual advertising network system provider.
3) Bid based Contextual Advertising
On this Contextual advertising system, publisher can bid their required rent to display the ads on their web site and in same manner the advertiser can bid their budget to show their ads or fix their spending range like as keyword bidding on PPC. For Example: - Advertiser can fix maximum of 1$ to display the ads on http://example1.com and 5$ for http://example2.com. When the publisher of this two sites bid within this range, the ads will be displayed on these sites.
4) Affiliate Contextual Advertising
For this affiliate contextual advertising, the advertiser will pay only for sale or lead generated by publisher’s web site. The advertiser will fix an amount for sale or lead or both. The publisher has to select their choice of advertiser’s products which will be earning more benefit for them.
More over that, some major sub advertising methods are available within these above contextual advertising categories.
i) Pay Per Click
The Contextual advertising advertiser has to pay for click done by actual visitors on web sites. This method is not applicable for Affiliate Contextual advertising.
ii) Pay for Impression
The contextual advertiser has to pay for ad views on that publisher’s web site. CPM is the term used for this methodology. It refers cost for thousand impression of the contextual advertisement. Some body refers as cost per hundred impressions. This method is not applicable for Affiliate Contextual advertising.
